Used for VLF reception only
It allows the submarine to stay below maximum VLF reception depth and to receive VLF by deploying the buoy and the ALK antenna above maximum VLF reception depth.

ALM ANTENNA Omni directional VLF aerial comprising a series of loops in the fin
Used for VLF reception only
The VLF loops are located inside the fin and are not visible on the outside. The fin itself is made of fiberglass and is not pressurized. The inside of the fin is open to the sea and floods when the submarine dives.

ALW ANTENNA Buoyant disposable VLF wire aerial
Used for VLF reception only
The floating antenna is deployed from the fin and floats near the surface due to positive buoyancy.

ALN ANTENNA Telescopic LF-MF-HF-VHF-UHF mast
The LF-MF-HF portion of the ALN telescopic mast is the main antenna at sea to receive the naval radio broadcast and for submarine to shore communications. When coming up to periscope depth, the telescopic mast is raised above water. Once the bottom insulator rises above water, an antenna tuner is used to tune the antenna.
The VHF-UHF portion of the ALN mast is located on top of the mast. It is used mostly for submarine to aircraft and submarine to ship communications.

AMK ANTENNA VHF-UHF/IFF combined antenna associated with the ECM mast ECM = Electronic Counter Measures
The ECM portion of the mast is used to listen and eavesdrop on the enemy while on patrol and during attacks.
The VHF-UHF portion of the AMK mast is another antenna which can be used to communicate with ships and aircrafts when the ALN telescopic mast is down or when the VHF-UHF portion of the ALN telescopic mast is used in another radio circuit.

AWJ ANTENNA Emergency whip aerial for use on the surface only
For MF & HF transmission and reception
It was never used at sea unless the ALN telescopic mast was unusable. It was often used on the surface when entering port for communications on 2182 kHz while the ALN mast was busy on ship to shore traffic. When in foreign ports, this antenna was often used for ship to shore traffic instead of the ALN telescopic mast. Depending on the conditions and distance from Canada, or if HF propagation was bad, the ALN mast was a better HF antenna than the AWJ whip.
